Race Type: Spartan Beast
Length of Race: 13.1 Miles

This race was hard, but it was a good time. I ran this with my brother Ryann and my friend Zach. I had a water pack with some granola bars, mustard, and energy chews in it.
Before the race began we went to a small café and got some breakfast. When we first arrived at the Spartan race we got checked in and prepared for the race. There was a vendor that had a salmon ladder that we could try. Zach and I made it up 3 rungs and Ryann made it up 2. On the last rung, I landed weird and instantly my elbow hurt. I think I may have strained or slightly tore the tendon at the elbow. I digress.
We started the race in the normal fashion; hop a wall and stand in the gate. We started at a good pace, running through woods first and then grass. We ran for a while before coming up on 3 walls (one over, one under, and one through). We soon came to an area that looked like military training or a shooting range. We ran through sand that turned to swamp, climbed a cargo net, and another wall. Soon we came to a swamp that brought mud and water up to our waists. This swamp lasted about a half mile before it finally gave way to sand and dirt. We came to an inverted wall, the twister, a sandbag carry, and a spear throw. We also had a bucket brigade, a multirig, two stone carries, an Olympic wall, a rope climb, a mud wall climb, an a-frame climb, and multiple mud pools.
It was a challenging race and definitely left me sore, bruised, and tired. The placement of the obstacles made sure that your arms were tired by the time you got to some of the obstacles that require more upper body strength. I found that the running was the worst part, followed by my forearm strength. They found as many hills as they could, but there weren’t too many large hills.
This was the longest race I have run yet and was one of the hardest, but I really enjoyed it.
